We take pride in our work, ensuring we check every centimetre of your property for signs of termite activity.

Termite Inspection Process

When we inspect the premises, we are looking for signs that termites may be active.

These include:

  • Timber structures that sound hollow when tapped.
  • Discoloured drywall, especially if it has small holes in it
  • Floor damage due to moisture, which can be caused by termite activity
  • Damaged timber
  • Evidence of detritus (such as discarded wings or termite pellets)
  • Mud tunnels on your foundations
  • Swarms of termites

Once we’ve checked your entire property, inside and outside, we’ll compile our findings into a detailed report. This will contain observations of any activity we’ve seen, along with photographic evidence.

As well as detailing what we’ve found, we’ll also suggest appropriate remedial activities to remove any termites and/or put in place preventative measures to prevent future infestations.

Tips & Tricks to Prevent Termites

You might think that termites can’t be prevented, but there are things you can do to deter these unwanted visitors. These include:

  • Leaving your roof void accessible for inspections, if possible
  • Ensuring good ventilation, drainage & access for your sub-floor, if your property has one
  • Removing any pavers or garden beds that might be covering your weep holes
  • Keeping a 50mm inspection zone from the top of your concrete slab to its external edge
  • Mending any leaks in your hoses, drains or pipes, & ensure any runoff from air conditioners or hot water systems is sent away from your property
  • Ensuring no firewood or building materials are leaning against your property or are contained beneath the sub-floor
  • Clearing any dead trees, old wood, fallen branches & stumps
  • Making sure you use treated timber for retaining walls & garden beds

Top all these strategies off with a quality inspection from the professionals at Border Pest Control. All our inspections are performed by friendly, qualified professionals who take every step possible to eradicate termites from your property. To book your inspection with us, give us a call today.

Within our report, we cover our findings related to your:

  • Building interiors, not including furniture & items you have stored
  • Building exteriors, which include timbers, stumps & trees
  • Any accessible sub-floor spaces or roof voids

Our report describes any presence of termites or termite damage we find on your property. If we have located termite activity, we’ll discuss which treatment options you have at your disposal. We’ll also offer you a recommended course of action for you to consider.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The property has concrete foundations—can termites still get in?

    Unfortunately, yes.

Termites can’t gnaw through concrete, but can easily slip through the tiniest crack in a concrete slab—if you’ve got a gap the thickness of a credit card or more anywhere on your foundations or concrete floor surface, a termite can enter.

  • How often should properties be inspected for termites?

We recommend that a property is always inspected before purchase or lease so that you don’t move in only to discover you’ve got a termite problem.

In addition, even if you’ve got preventative measures in place, we recommend an annual inspection just to check that no termites have managed to gain entry.

  • Can you inspect for other pests as well as termites?

Yes! We are happy to combine our termite inspection with an inspection for evidence of rodents, roaches, beetles or any other pests that you're concerned about.

  • What's the difference between a termite check and a termite inspection?

Some pest management providers advertise termite checks, which are marketed at lower prices than termite inspections and are sometimes even free of charge. This might sound great, but termite checks are all marketing ploys. They’re generally basic looks around a property to detect obvious activity, so they naturally don’t include entering roof voids or subflooring and aren't followed up with inspection reports.

In contrast, a termite inspection performed according to Australian Standards will take around an hour and a half to complete and comes with a complete assessment of the building's interior, exterior and roof voids and subfloors (as far as these are accessible). Inspections are also followed up by comprehensive reports.

  • Should I clear my furniture before you arrive for the inspection?

No. As most properties we inspect are furnished, insulated, carpeted and filled with stored items, it wouldn’t be practical to expect you to empty your property every year for an inspection. Our inspections are visual assessments performed by professional technicians, who come with the training, expertise and experience needed to detect signs of termite activity or any conditions that might encourage the presence of termites.
